Dancing & Stars.

5/20/2013

I've been so busy the past 3 months that I haven't had time to post.  All I can say is.... I feel so lucky and so happy to have been working on a show with glitter, music and dancing. See how happy Kellie Pickler's face is cause she won? That's how I've felt all season. More or less. It's been a little bit like living in a Baz Luhrman movie.

Dance is one of my favorite things- in addition to films of course. It's always been one of my biggest regrets that I didn't continue with the Ballet lessons I took as a child! However, things have almost come full circle as I've been somehow given the opportunity to work on a docu-drama series about BALLET as an Associate Producer.

Photo taken with some of our awesome crew. When you work with people 6 days a week, 12 plus hours a day, they can't help but become like family! In a good way.

Sundance!

As I've been living in Utah, this year I purchased a locals only pass for Sundance 2012. I really looking forward to 10 days of independent films mixed with snow and ugg boots and Park City, but I ended up scoring a videographer gig for Google Music. For the first time, Google was hosting an independent music program during the Film Festival, and wanted to hire local videographers to document the concerts.  I heard about the job online, through a random craigslist post- and sent my resume in. I later found out they had over 75 applicants! Even though I missed out on seeing some amazing films, this job was the highlight of my 2012 year to date.  Working with Google was a great opportunity, and I truly loved so many of the bands we followed around and filmed. My personal favorite: Filming THE CIVIL WARS. They have the voices of angels. Hipster Angels.

I also found some papparazzi photos on Getty!

View the video above to see the footage I shot (along with Cody M, another very talented videographer!).

With everything going on with Kony 2012, I can't help remembering my amazing film students in Gulu, Northern Uganda. Here is a video we created just this last summer, in our Thrive, Gulu filmmaking workshop. We needed a group project that we could shoot with multiple cameras, and edit together- and so a flashmob seemed like a perfect idea. You'll notice we cut back and forth between an HD camera, and multiple Flip Cameras. The flashmobbers, are all our film students!

Wise words: Let's get together and be alright.

Working on a travel show is truly a dream come true. We stay at wonderful hotels, eat amazing food, and see beautiful locations. With all these benefits, the real highlight is getting to work with amazing people! I've spent the past 3 weeks as the production coordinator for a Swiss travel show called SF Unterwegs.  This is my 2nd time working with them, and as always- it's a pleasure. After a few months of working on their pre-production, securing filming permits, organizing shoot details, etc, I was more than happy to escape winter by being with the Swiss team in Florida!

If you watch long enough, you can see my debut on Swiss television as a fisherwoman!

NYC

Spent a few days working in New York.... while in Boston and Salt Lake. Ahh, the power of the internet! Working yet again with Nathaniel Hansen, and I remotely produced this shoot. They had a pretty quick turn around time for this, but the finished product looks great. See below:

Sometimes when people ask what I do in production, I explain that in many ways it's like event planning. You organize and make things happen. I saw this happen first hand while working back in Boston on a giant corporate event! It was pretty amazing to be there, and while working for the event I shot and edited this video piece. Non-Profit video

After a busy summer of traveling I've decided to make the move out West...and have ended up in Salt Lake City. It's not quite LA, eventually I'll get there, but for now this place is treating me well. I've had the opportunity to work with the Kyle Korver Foundation, and this month I shot and edited a video for them about one of their big service projects. Great guys and a great cause.

Gulu, Uganda has been my home this summer. Last year was my first time in this war-torn region of Northern Uganda, and I was a bit nervous and unsure of my surroundings. Not this time. I taught a filmmaking workshop along with the wonderful Shola Ajayi, who is a collegue of mine from Film School. We worked with the non-profit organization THARCE-Gulu, to put together this arts empowerment workshop, and really wanted to help create some positive images of Gulu through social media and filmmaking. Our students were between the ages of 20-30 years old and were awesome.  Eliza Dushku and Rick Fox also work with THARCE-Gulu and brought us amazing laptops donated by HP.

All in all, it was one of the best trips of my life. I can't wait to go back.

I AM.

In February I traveled out to LA, as I was hired to direct/shoot/edit this video for the LDS Church. A bonus was to have Andrew- help out as the director of photography.  Elizabeth was an inspiring woman...and she loves shopping for a good bargain. I can relate.
